ACHIEVEMENT: Once a year, the City of Melbourne takes part in a Car Free Day.

TARGET DATE: June 2004 (for implementing this goal). The best date for the Melbourne Car Free Day is being considered, with your view welcome by e-mailing me at david@davidrisstrom.org. PROGRESS: Discussions have begun amongst Greens on inner city Councils to see how we can co-operate to create as wide a ranging Car Free Day as possible.

DESCRIPTION: For at least one day each year, the City of Melbourne is actively involved in creating a day when people are encouraged to give their car a rest and use other forms of transport.

FURTHER INFORMATION: This idea was given oxygen by Yarra Greens Councillor Deb Di Natale and Victorian Greens Transport Spokesperson Alison Clarke. It has emerged from a growing worldwide movement for an international Car Free Day worldwide.

More information on Car Free Days around the world is available at the following websites:

YOUR COMMENTS: Please provide your ideas on how we can grow a Car Free Day in Melbourne to david@davidrisstrom.org. I will acknowledge your ideas on this site wherever possible.
